Wow that's amazing. How much did it cost roughly and how long did it take you to collect so many?

I started collecting DVDs in 2001/2002 (can't really tell exactly) and bought my last one in 2009. Before that I bought laserdiscs (still have a nice collection of those, too). Here in Germany it was quite difficult to get movies without dubbed sound (Germans dub everything) and I absolutely hate not hearing the original actor's voice. We're talking pre-internet era here, early to mid nineties. So I went for (expensively) imported LDs. When DVDs were introduced it was a dream come true. Next to the German dubbing almost every DVD contained the original sound and was much cheaper compared to an LD, plus the picture quality was way better. I sometimes still watch an LD, though, because the analog audiotracks rule. ;)

Summing it up: Nine years, lots of cash, no regrets. Now I'm all digital with a Mac mini and 6TB connected to my flatscreen. It's really comfortable.

Have one what? A MacBook? or a bag? Well yea I could definitely recommend both :)

For the MacBook, what are you planning on doing with it? If you are doing things like watching videos, word processing, maybe a little picture editing (nothing serious) and web browsing, then any MacBook will get the job done.

The MacBook Airs are the smallest and lightest and the lowest spec'd overall, however they do have SSD drives (which I'm sure you can get in certain models of other Macs) but they fare pretty well with average day to day activities.

Since you dont' really have a computer at all though, I would suggest a macbook pro; they all have great specs and whatnot, and the reason that I didn't suggest a macbook is because an update to the line should be coming around the corner any time now.

For a laptop bag? Incase has some pretty good ones.... I like that overall look that they have; if you're into video games and know what MLG (Major League Gaming) is, Astro Gaming has a couple that are great quality; going to get one from them at the start of the summer.

You are so humorous. Of course what i want is a netbook not a bag.:p
I want to buy one online as I think it would be cheaper. What is your opinion?

How about this one :) A real RED iPhone 4

I have no problem with the red i4, rather like it as a matter of fact. The rest of the phone is the most hideous looking thing I have ever seen.

    Hi,

I'm trying to install 10.3 on an old Tangerine G3 333 iMac. I've upgraded the RAM and the OS9 that was already instlalled was running fine. I then swapped out the HD booted off of the 10.3 install CD, erased HD and partitioned it to 7GB/33GB.

So far so good. I start the install and everything seems to be going just fine, but it never ask for the 2nd install CD. It goes through disk optimization and everything while still on the 1st CD. Then it reboots itself, but fails to find the OS on the HD and ends up wanting to install again.

I've done this 4 or 5 times now and can't figure out what is happening. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.Hmm... After it's done with the first CD, and it's rebooting, the CD is still in there, right? I believe that the mac continues to boot off the first CD until the second is needed. The HD isn't booted from until the installation has finished. Once it's done with the first CD, and restarts, try holding down the "C" key to ensure it doesn't try and boot from the HD.

I need a program to start designing my website and need help with which is the best one to choose. I have been using ekm for it but it's too expensive for my needs as this is a hobby. I need to be able to design a website offline and just upload it when needed. I have virtually no budget to spend but don't mind paying a one off fee to get what I want just don't want to be paying every month. I need it to look classy and the big thing for it is I need to able to sell my items online through a shopping cart as I have alot of items at different weights and sizes etc and need to be able to set all this up quite easily. I've done many websites before just not using a mac but I haven't got loads of time to put into it unfortunately. Can anyone give me some suggestions of programs I can look at.
    Thanks

Call your local discount broker's office- TD Ameritrade, eTrade and ask them if it's possible.

    +1

Getting advice on the internet about whether its possible is not going to get you what you need. Calling a brokerage firm will quickly enough confirm if this possible.

Pretty pathetic.... when that happened to us, we bought a used one.. if you buy from a store, they'll provide some kind of warranty in many cases... we've had used ones last longer than new ones.

    /RANT/

So my 2007 Xbox 360 decided to konk out on me today. It turns on and it makes the booting noise, but alas I just have a black screen (yes I've check cables). Fine, ***** happens. So I go to Best Buy to pick up the 4gb 360 slim. Low and behold they don't have it, all they have is the stupid 4gb Kinect bundles or the 250gb holiday bundle. They have stacks upon stacks of these goddamn bundles, but no stand-alone 4gb systems. Next stop, Target. Same story there, Kinect and holiday bundles galore, but no stand-alone systems. Next stop Wal-Mart, same story. Next Stop Meijer, same stupid story. Finally I go to Gamestop, and guess what only Kinect and Holiday bundles.

To say that I am pissed right now is a major understatement. Why do they have to stock all of these stupid *********g bundles? No one wants the damn things. Why can't they just stock more stand-alone systems? Maybe it's not the fault of the stores, maybe this is Microsoft's falut, because they won't make enough stand-alone systems. If that is the case, why do they have to be so stupid????

    /END RANT/

Basically what is with this bundle crap? What happened to buying this separately?

    -Don

I am thinking of buying a 1Tb iMac 2011 i7. I don't want to waste money on the 2Tb one.

However, I may need more space in the future, I was seeing this hard-drive dock thing when I was browsing newegg, I never use one before, which one works best with iMac? Is there a thunderbolt one? Thanks.:)

I am going to be picking up my new 27" iMac at the store tomorrow. For the past 4 years I have been using a 24" Dell at 1920x1200. Since the 27" iMac is 2560x1140, do most people run it at native or something lower?

I am looking forward to the increased screen size so I can have more rows/columns viewable, but not sure I want them any smaller.

I sit about 24-30" away from the screen.

How would the 27" look at something lower?

There has not been any concrete information because nothing official has been released. The only piece of official evidence is WWDC invites. There are however plenty of rumours swirling around.

This thread has you covered, all thats needed was a simple search.

Ps3 has a crappy browser. I heard they may be updating it to something like firefox, but have nothing right now.

Sorry about the Netflix, that' a pretty big loss. Streaming media, I think, works better with xbox and windows.

Check out some ps3 games. Interested in any?

The only issue would be if you need to access the book side-by-side with your work. This isn't a problem for me because I have 2 large screens. If you only have one smallish screen, then this may be an issue. Unless you have an iPad and can view the book on the iPad while you work. ;)

This was one thing I thought of, but the bulk of my work is done with my MBP tethered to an external monitor, so I have the space for it. I eventually plan on getting an iPad (though by the time I have the money, it will likely be an iPad 3) so I figure that would be awesome to be able to keep all my programming books together at all times.

I'm open to as many opinions as possible, and I appreciate the comments!

    Maybe? Perhaps? Depends? :p

The key question here is why kind of s/w will you need for your physics classes. If you are not doing anything too graphics intense then you can get by with integrated graphics.

If that is the case then I'd go w/ a low end 13" MBP. It's a 1lb lighter than the 15" and also the smaller footprint is going to make it easier on you when using a small classroom desk or workspace area.

I'd removed the hard drive -- put it in a separate ext. enclosure, and put in a 128GB SSD. They are fairly affordable now -- about $200-250. That will make the MBP a tad lighter, but more importantly, SSDs are more durable. Keep essential info on the SSD, and non-essential stuff (docs, etc. you don't usually need/want) on the ext. drive. Bump up the RAM to 8GB. RAM is cheap if you upgrade yourself.

Another option is to wait a month or two until Apple refreshes the MBAs to i3s -- though I think you'll do better with an i5 or i7 MPB. But 4.5 lbs can get to be a burden schelping around all day. Truly tough, personal choice.

Next question - do you have to spend the entire $2500? I'm asking b/c if not I'd put half of it in a 2 year CD (not that CDs are making a bunch of interest these days, but because you won't be tempted to spend it prematurely) and use it for a mid-college career upgrade.

As you advance in your major your hardware demands will probably increase. So your Jr. year would be the ideal time to sell the computer you bought freshman year and upgrade. Use the proceeds from the sale + the CD to buy the new machine. Using a 4 y.o. machine sr. year in a high science major will be miserable.

Since used CD that are in ok condition usually still perform just as good as the day they were bought, are there any places that distribute previously owned albums?

I did a google search and found quite a few sites, but I don't know about how legit they are.

    Help would be awesome!
