Hi,
Ok, i know this site is by it's nature about gadgets, but for me it's all about the carrier.
I've had 8 different carriers in the last 10 years. Many of them have merged/
changed names/gone out of business.
When i see people complaining about their carrier, it's always about coverage
dropouts. Folks, ALL carriers will have SOME dropouts, especially if you live
in a challenging physical terrain.
What i found more aggravating is how obtuse and unresponsive these companies are. This is an area of modern commerce that is barely regulated.
Politicians have been lobbied to allow a wild west mentality for an industry
that has insinuated itself into most of our lives in just a short time.
I've had carriers routinely sneak in extra charges. Representatives have no
compunction about lying. I don't know about you, but i don't have time to
audit my bill every month with a magnifying glass.
Each carrier was worse than the last. The most annoying thing? Being
put on hold for 40 minutes, than disconnected. This is intentional. They don't want to be accessible.
Finally the last time i switched i did a search to see which companies had the least complaints. Although the billing practices overall in the industry
are atrocious, i've had the best experience overall with my current carrier.
This trumps any pleasure i would get from having a phone that integrates
well with my macs.

Hype often makes a good product look worse upon release. Nothing new there.... But why would people get excited over Apple releasing a cellphone, despite having no real info on the details of it yet?
Simple! Most of us are frustrated with the horrible user interfaces on cellphones, and the lack of usability. I've owned several that made dialing numbers on the keypad too much of a chore. My Razr I use now is decent, but even it has horrible engineering flaws - like putting small buttons down the side that always get pressed accidently when the phone is on a belt-clip. You end up accidently changing the settings for the ringer, etc. My Treo 650 had serious problems with call volume being too low. Almost every Treo owner had to pay extra for a shareware program called "VolumeCare" just to fix that! I'm just hoping Apple can overcome a lot of that, and build a cellphone with an elegant but logical UI!
Treo 650 has a low call volume. So? It's not a flaw that's specific to all mobile phones. My friend's phone is too loud!
And UI improvements. Well........Sony Ericsson is definitely king of mobile phone UI right now, Motorola being the absolute worst. I don't know what else Apple can do. I actually have an idea for how get 2 or 3 types of buttons on the front face of the phone without making it a slider phone, but that's really the only idea I'd like implemented that will change the UI. Otherwise, what you'll be getting is a UI from Apple that's similar to what you use now, maybe touch screen (gimmicky).

Sounds like a lot of us are waiting for a serious MBA update in terms of Sandy bridge etc.
Hope it comes before the end of the year. Summer would be nice, I'll get it with my iPhone 5.

Just got a replacement 3GS on 4.2.1 and though I've googled and searched this forum, I can't figure out whether I can have an untethered JB yet if I update to 4.3.3.
I know a tethered JB is available, but I also got the impression that for 4.3.3 3GS, one of the 4.3.2 untethered methods will still work - i.e. RedSn0w or PwnageTool. Is that true? If so, which is best/easiest?

If not, I get the impression there'll be a 4.3.3 untethered coming soon - is that correct? Sorry if these questions are a bit stupid, I couldn't find clear answers anywhere...

didn't apple officially say that intel processors would be out in the summer of 2005?
At the 2005 WWDC which took place in the Summer of 2005 Apple announced that they would be moving to Intel processors and that the transition would be complete in 2007. Obviously, they beat that time table by a wide margin.

I am part of a none profit organization and we want to send out an eNews Letter to people interested with our group. I'm in charge of getting this thing off the ground but I'm not sure exactly how to do it. What I want to do is send out an email with nice graphics, pictures, links, and so on and so forth; pretty much like the regular printed kind of news letter but through email. I guess a good example of the kind of news letter I'm talking about would be the ones Apple sends out. What do I need in order to do something like that?

4.3.0 sucks bad. Gyroscope isn't recognized by apps that need it, which is a huge bug. Also crap battery life, facetime issues, and other assorted annoyances. I'll take a 4.3.0 jb, but id much prefer 4.3.1.
Not sure what "issues" you're having, but I've had 4.3 (never seen it called "4.3.0" since there's no such thing, Math 101), but I don't have gyro issues, and my battery life is fantastic. I can't say I use facetime much, but when I have I've had no issues. Sounds like you might have a device issue, not a widespread OS issue. When Apple released 4.3, it was widely understood that it was released to plug the jailbreak.... tho it seems for many that "issues" suddenly are realized when Apple releases a "fix" ... I have a feeling that you're the type that if Apple releases 4.3.2 to fix "volume issues" you'll suddenly complain that you hate 4.3.1 because of the volume bug, even though you'd never mentioned it until they said they're fixing it. That's the type of person psychics prey on... lol.
Wouldn't surprise me, it is just a bunch of ungrateful and impatient drones.
This is why I ditched iPhone and went to Android 2 months ago. I got sick of the waiting game for jailbreaks. I have no right to a jailbreak, I just wanted it sooner, and the devs have had a harder and harder time making it happen for every OS release. Android on the other hand, has everything I jailbreak for already built into the OS... widgets, better multitasking, personal hotspot (not ad-hoc crap, etc). I bought an iPad assuming the chatter about "it's almost here" from 3 weeks ago wouldn't be like the Christmas promises that didn't come through till February for iPhone, but again I was disappointed.
Again, I don't feel entitled to something, my frustration isn't with the Dev Team, it's with Apple. They're focusing sooooo much energy on fighting jailbreaking that Android has focused the same time on building the features and OS that users want. If this thing doesn't come out in the next week this iPad is going back. Apple already lost me in the phone business, guess they want to alienate me as a tablet customer too?
Ok, queue the Apple fanboy flamers... it's fine, I can take it. I speak from reality not fanaticism. 1 year ago iOS owned the market, now Android does. Give it one more year and it won't even be close if Apple continues to treat customers like prisoners. That didn't work out well for them in the 80s, which gave MSFT the ammo they needed to permanently take the market, and this isn't panning out any different.

I think they removed it, but according to Andrew Welch (president of Ambrosia Software), "Everything that was free in the older, free WireTap continues to be free in WireTap Pro. You can use it to your heart's content to record AIFF recordings, and never pay for it." If you use other features, an unregistered message is dubbed over your recordings until you register.
Ah. I missed that. Thanks.

i love my eMac's they had been the actual reason why i switched to Mac , from linux in 2009 , they are i think the most underrated Mac's of all time and dont deserve to stand in the shadow of G4 iMac's and G4 minis , ok it has a positive side you can pick them up for less then a mini or iMac costs
now i got 4 of them and they got me hooked to Mac's since then i buy Mac's whenever i can afford one , crazy me :)

Bad choice of name.
When most people hear "iBook" they think about either fruit-colored or white portable computers. Perhaps a better name is in order?

Clown ass sw?
I've been on iClarified. I am doing the right stuff, it just isn't working. The application shuts down after a few minutes.
Ok so tell me, who released the iUnlocked sw you're referring to? Chronic-Dev, ih8sn0w or Dev-Team? =)
Use redsn0w: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=14563

Protein: p1155_L939_K12M_298K_DT_250ps_clones
Run: 46 (Clone 203, Gen 0)
Frames Completed: 0, Remaining: 400
Dynamic steps required: 5000000
This work unit was choking the PowerMac G4, which was doing one frame per hour. It would take the Mac seventeen days to finish the unit. How does a G4 user tell the Folding server to not send TINKER units to G4 CPUs? Waiting three weeks for a result, when an x86 system could have the unit done in a few days, is inefficient.
"Seventeen days? Hey, man, I don't wanna rain on your parade, but we're not gonna last seventeen hours. Those things are gonna come in here just like they did before, and they're gonna come in here and they're gonna come in here and they're gonna kill us!" -Private Hudson
My computer was being VERY slow for a few frames one time. To the point where it said the WU would be done in APRIL OF NEXT YEAR. But after a day or two it went down to a reasonable time.

that was pretty interesting.
I was talking some days ago with a professor @ school who is, i have to admit, the only real mac fan above 30 i know. ;-) well there are certainly some on the boards ,-)
well but what he told me was:
I m only buying apple computers, as they are the best. they are expensive, but anyways. You only live once ;-)
i had to think of that discussion when i read the story. pretty amusing.

Hmm, my title may be a bit misleading. I do understand Thunderbolt (I/o, 10 Gb's per sec, etc). However, some people have noticed the Thunderbolt port is the EXACT same as the mini display port. Whaddup with that? Does that mean, my old iMac with a mini display port is different than the coming iMac with a mini-display-port-renamed-thunderbolt? The ports are the same, it looks like they just renamed it.

Does the Mac mini accept any other optical media like audio CDs, DVDs or other kinds it should support?
What does it say in System Profiler > Hardware >> Serial-ATA >>> "optical drive"?
You could make screenshots (http://guides.macrumors.com/Taking_Screenshots_in_Mac_OS_X) if you are unsure.
