Selling loss leaders is a very common retail tactic and is used by just about everyone (including Apple).
Very true.
Apple sells cheap songs in hopes that you'll buy an iPod.
Amazon sells even cheaper songs... ???... profit?

well there you have it apple: in this day and age sueing somebody over patents who has more than you might not always be the smartest idea
fact is: between those big cooperations it has become usual practice to let a certain amount of patent abuse slide since it profits all sides if technology can be used by more, and it also helps adoptions rates (famous example: IBM and their countless PC hardware related patents)

Apple has it all down to a science. They probably have algorithm's for getting the most possible money out of you.....if you don't see this your blind...Wait for something that actually makes a difference...not just a different color. As if they ever intended to release the white iphone at the same time as the black one hahahaha

I said "iPhone dominate smartphone market". What you mentioned is iOS vs Android. They're completely different.
If Apple did not have VZ iPhone, they will have 0 share outside GSM phone. Apple want the market share to translate into profit.
Apple is a company who's profit comes, mostly, from selling hardware. So market share of product matters to Apple. Google, on the other side, cares more on OS market share. As long as iPhone still win the "phone market", not the OS market share, Apple will do well.
Maybe you misunderstood me... I don't care about market share... either hardware share or software share. I don't think it matters how much of one thing there are against another thing.
You're right... Apple cares about profit... mostly from selling hardware. Which they do... lots of hardware. I think that's more important for a company.
Apple is, and has always been, a hardware company.
Google went down the route of putting their software on any device that wanted it... which is why I hate when people compare Android vs the iPhone.

A source? I'm sure we will find out all of the top secret information in a few minutes.
I meant a source for your ideas of how those involved in Al-Qaeda branded cells viewed Osama as invincible.
How could that be when it is well known the man has messed up kidneys and needed ongoing medical care as well as dialysis?
It sounded more to me like you think that is how members view him.

Really? I took the cue from the post count and not page count. I was under the impression that graphic-heavy threads are closed after about 2000 posts.
Yep...... 2000 posts is typically the cue to start a new thread.
Since it's 5:11am here, I don't have a new purchase to post.:p

Uh please.
Google has done a helluva lot to Android since they bought it. Android is unrecognisable now to what it was in 05. They have simply bought a brand name to get their product popular.
In other words, you are talking rubbish sir. Stop accusing people of trolling, when they are simply telling it how it is.
That's simply not what I meant.
And just so that you came to google developing android, they pretty much copied the entire iOS for what it did at that time and have been copying since.
Not denying that they didn't do anything themselves; but Google's Android OS looked moistly like iOS in late 2009. Simply a bad ripoff.
This comes from a Nexus S user; truth isn't that far off from reality.

How can you tell how many cores its using?
With top in the command line or with activity monitor (utilities/activity monitor); you can see how many cores are running.

I thought it was thicker after I just bought... Guess I was right! but it fits in all the cases I have just fine. The white bumper plus the white iPhone looks AMAZING

Its clear Apple is missing something in the midrange desk top line. Its time for the Cube or Macintosh or headless iMac or Max Mini or something. iMac isnt for everyone and the world has billions of big beautiful displays just waiting for a midrange Mac but if Apple prices it again the same as the towers it will be another failure. Its way past time for the next Macintosh. Needs a real GPU, at least 1 expansion slot and should be priced right along with ugly iMac:D or a pinch below.
I couldn't agree more. A Conroe machine would fit this bill nicely. I don't have $2500 to spend on a CPU, but want a more powerful desktop. Not that a Mac is a mere PC, but the VAST majority of Windoze PCs are under $600. Why not put out a $700-1000 Mac? Increase the market share even more. Of course then Wal-Mart would want them, a sure sign of the end...

Order placed. Upgrading from 24" 2.93 GHz Core 2.
Configuration:
3.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
2TB Serial ATA Drive + 256GB Solid State Drive
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5
Hopefully should last me a few years like the old one. 6 weeks to wait though. :(
expensive, why not go MBP + nice LED Screen + SSD?
if you are selling 24", it will go for dirt
I am interested in the upgrade from 21.5" 2009 mode, but the resales value is low, i have no interest in the upgrade.

Nice. Another awesome media streaming feature that will be choked by AT&T.
There will probably will be a push to utilize WIFI. Unless, of course, you're one of the "chosen" to have their unlimited data plans grandfathered and won't be impacted. ;)
Also, you'll be able to multi-task on the ATT network...

this iPad-ness of Lion has me a bit worried. I don't want my interface looking like some cheap toy.
Hope they'll come up with something classier to match the hardware

But at least the sidebar is improved in a useful way. I hate how the text on the current sidebar hangs to the side of the images, taking up valuable width.
So instead, the new sidebar pushes into the image, reducing it in size, and requiring you to expand the width ( ) of the window if you want to keep the image the same size. I don't really see the overall difference. I suppose it comes down to whether you prefer the images to get slightly smaller, or the tray to suddenly cover over other things.

Exactly.
So either these pics are of a conversion kit white iPhone or these kits in fact followed the same specs of the Apple white door - which is slightly bigger too.
I could now see it being either of these two possibilities. Originally I just chalked it up to the aftermarket stuff being cheaply made and not being manufactured to precise measurements, but if the Apple white OEM parts are in fact thicker, it's obvious these aftermarket makers already somehow knew of the increase in thickness, and were following those specs (and have been for quite some time now).

now we know what the iPhone3,3 model was that kept popping up in iOS references.
i came over to AT&T with my iphone 4 from tmobile i bought off contract because i was tired of jailbreaking all the time with every update and having everything break like MMS and internet. the quality of service on ATT is awful, both in phone and with MMS/Text. I love it how on the ATT network it breaks up every text into pieces, and delivers the second half before the first.
if tmobile got an iphone, i would go back in a heartbeat. screw att, even with the merger.

Where the McDonald's staff doing the right thing, where they obeying McDonald's policy?
Almost certainly. McDonald's has an aversion to being sued. Remember last time?
Should they be fired?
Of course not. They aren't the local constabulary.
