I may be wrong but I suspect that the success of iPod / iTunes is as much about ease of use and pleasant experience that comes from Apple's, hopefully patented, software and hardware interfaces. There was inevitably going to be ways around the system like this but I am not convinced this news will herald a disaster for Apple.
I don't see clunky interfaced Zunes and the like suddenly becoming more tolerable because they can now hack a tune from iTunes to play on it. Perhaps a hack that allowed an iPod user to buy and run music from a cheaper source might be more successful and that would damage iTunes sales but at the same time increase iPod sales maybe?

Not sure why people think this is bad. Fair use if you ask me.
OTOH it's possibly open to abuse but i think it's worth the risk. I'm not overly keen on DRM stopping people doing what they like with stuff they've paid for. I wouldn't touch a DRM CD for example. All my downloads are from places that don't do DRM (and have at least 320kbps mp3 or better).
Could you drop a URL ?

I think I'm selling my 12" iBook next week, and I'm getting a new iMac next week as well, so I'm thinking I want to get a new laptop, and the 17" powerbook is what I'd like. It dosent need to have all the high end specs, 256MB/512MB is fine, 40GB-60GB is also fine, It does need to be in complete working order, no dead pixels, and no cosmetic issues though, I will entertain all offers though. on ebay the go for around $1000-$1300, I'd like to pay somewhere in that range, depending on the specs. I wont be able to buy anything untill at the earliest, next week when I get my iMac and sell my iBook, but I'd just like to see if anyone here has one they might be interested in selling, thanks a lot

But I've never had a problem with the logo...it's playful, artsy, and somewhat "cheeky"...which, to me, is just right for MacRumors. So, no logo change for at LEAST another year...if ever.:D

I agree, It would annoy everyone else in the rest of the world as well. ;)
Annoy?? Can a phone refresh REALLY annoy somebody? If your answer is YES then you have no life and sorry to say you're just a kid with issues.

No one needs that much money. Assuming his wealth is around 40 billion, that's more than anyone could ever spend or needs. I say tax it all, and leave him with a few hundred million. That's still an insane amount of money. That way, he'd be paying his fair share of taxes, and would still have more money than he needs.
I'm surprised at you kavika.
5P, Let's boil this down to two questions...
1. Is it true that wealth is getting more and more distributed into the hands of the rich?
2. Does/should the government play any role in the proportioning of that wealth?
I answered your question... and you never responded. What happened?
Everything of values generated and accumulated within the boundaries of a state (by which I mean nation-state, btw), belongs to that state. I don't mind the state handing out money by keeping the tax rates low, but giving rich people tax relief is like spending billions of dollars on those who already have far more than they need for many lifetimes.
Seriously? Even a child knows that if they have $10, a bully takes $5, but then returns $1, that the bully didn't GIVE them anything, but rather TOOK $4 instead of $5. Saying things like the government is 'giving people tax relief' is backwards thinking.
No local, state or national government can govern or maintain infrastructure without some form of income, and an income tax is a fair way for every citizen to contribute to common needs. It is up to the voters to decide how much we all ought to pay..
And if that mobjority decides that they want to take all the wealth of a certain group of people, that's their right to do? Since they have a majority? It's pretty easy to get support from a majority of people to take other people's money and distribute it to them. It's just not moral. Your position is that individuals have zero moral, legal, or otherwise claim to the wealth that they themselves work for/earn?
I read a post somewhere that said 5P had left us.
Is that true? That would be so sad. :(
As someone once said, "He may be a bastard, but he's our bastard."
Did you just call me a bastard?

Anyone here who uses a stand with their MB Air? I'm looking for a small, stylish stand that angles the Air up slightly towards the back. I am currently using a belkin cooling stand, leftover from my MB days.
Using xtand with air 11.6, and I am pleased with functionality and style. Will post a photo later on today, but have to mention that I had to add four 12 mm silicone pads to lift the air a bit. Xtand looks like it was built for 11.6 (when you add those pads yourself)

I had the same problem with my brand new MacBook Pro(2011). I took it to the Genius Bar along with my Numa Nano. After trying it on a number of different MacBooks, we found that the problem was on all the new MacBooks(2011). The laptops from 2010 saw it fine....
So as I said, Apple and Numa don't agree on how USB MIDI should work. Avoid USB and use the two round MIDI ports or wait and hope Apple fixes this some day soon.

hi thanks all for your help. i just checked and i dont have keynote and here in the UK its 50 - ouch! i can't afford that either, at the moment im trying to find a way to pay of apple protection for my ibook at 200 - so i think iWorks will have to wait a while. it was hard enough getting the money to pay for iLife '05 Up-To-Date which should have come free. ahh! i love my iBook and all, and i thought once i shelled out all the money for it, i would have to pay anything on top. how wrong could i be! 200 insurance, iLife 15, ms works 4 apple 100 OR iWork at 50. it all adds up!
any other ideas or should i give in now?
thanks again though!

I'm upgrading my PC and I don't think I'll be needing the old parts. So I might be selling these parts. So here are some parts I'm considering to sell:
*Chaintech P4X400-VT8235 ATX Motherboard - 8x AGP slot, LAN, Sound, PCI, Two DDR RAM Slots
*Intel Pentium 4 @ 2.2ghz CPU (Socket 478)
*AverMedia PCI TVTuner with FM tuner and Composite & S-Video Video Im (Drivers can be downloaded online)
I'm not 100% sure if I'd be selling these but, I'd just like to know maybe how much these parts would go for. :D
-Limey
Dunno if this is a fair offer or not but I offer you $100+shipping for the motherboard and CPU

Hi,
This is my first post. I was wondering if anyone knows how to set the metronome in Logic Pro to only click during part of a recording. I would like it to click while recording up to a point and then continue recording but stop clicking. I have played around with the count-in feature and the pre-roll, but have not had much success achieving what I describe above. Thanks,
-m
note: if there is a more appropriate place to post this thread, please let me know.
There might be 10 ways to do this but I think Volume Automation might be what you want. You might have to make a real audio track with clicks on it like a very boring wood block solo and use that in place of the clicks. Then after the 20th bar or whatever the wood block track just stops or the volume goes to zero
