Say you have 2 laptops with the same size screen, but different resolution screens, e.g. 17" LCD, one with 1920x1024 and another with 1440x768.
Right now the Apple menu and the text on it will appear smaller on the higher resolution screen, because the pixels are smaller and the size of the menu bar is defined in pixels.
On the resolution independant system the size of the menu bar (and everything else) will be the same, regardless of the size of pixels. So the menu bar will be 1/4 inch high instead of 25 pixels.
Nice explanation dr_lha :)

Good news but now apple becomes an even bigger target. I hope the apple security team is on guard all around.

Apple doesn't put on Macworld. There used to be two Macworlds, one in SF in Jan. and another on the East Coast in the summer. The Boston show disappeared a few years after Apple stopped going to that one. The WWDC is now Apple's summer event.
More precisely, the Boston show moved to New York City. After September 11, they people behind the show wanted to move it back to Boston and Apple refused to participate for some reason.

Travelling all the time across Europe, using different carriers (Vodafone,Orange,Movistar,Beeline,Mtel etc.) and never ever have I had a dropped call,so the "antenna issue" is not a concern at all over here...

Will they still go on with Messenger 6.0? Seeing as how they are crying about WWDC?
I think they will, as AFAI can tell, they announced this at WWDC.

What's this going to do to the NeoOffice project, I wonder? Neo exchanges Office file formats already, and it's Aqua so a pretty familiar GUI. For me, that free app is perfect. It'll be a shame if it loses support from the masses.

I think you should calibrate it straight away because otherwise your battery may get overcharged later, which can be quite harmful in terms of how long the battery will last in years. Remember that you can use your new toy during the entire process though, whether it's plugged in or not. :)
Merry Christmas. :)

well what is the best quality I can get from a rip? Ive got like 256kbps 128 320 its all over the place
Uncompressed is the best, but if you don't have the storage capacity, AAC is quite good with 192Kbit/s, although I prefer 256Kbit/s and 320Kbit/s.

I wonder how these companies got access to Apple's database. Why doesn't Apple keep better watch on it? And couldn't Apple just find out who's been accessing the database, and not allow connections from that source anymore? This all seems shady to me.
I imagine the process goes through a carrier outside of the US because many countries and carriers offer unlocks for their iPhone customers.

I gave up using Aperture to manage facebook and flickr images. It was way too slow, and I sometimes had Aperture delete a picture on Flickr after I did some more edits. I'd lose all the comments and favorites it had attached to it, which are part of the fun of posting there. I went back to manually uploading using the Flickr upload program.

Possibly. But last time I was involved with that process, IMEIs had to be sent to Apple by Fax. Carriers never had access to an Apple Database at that point. Then again, this may have changed.

Why is it that the iPad and the iPhone have great Sync with the iMa, but the small drive MBA has no Sync. Both the MBA and the iPad can be 64GB. Since one cannot cram a 1 Terabyte drive into 64GB of the MBA, there is a need for the Sync.

Apple's marketshare is still too low for that to have any effect on Office sales. What will disrupt Office is the move toward internet based apps. I still believe that Office will dominate for awhile.
However, a down-tick or two of marketshare will have a dramatic effect on the stock price and on computer users perceptions about Microsoft's monopolistic dominance.
The Microsoft dam is starting to leak.
Absolutely. I didn't mean Apple's current marketshare can dent Office sales on the whole. I meant that Apple users - Office for Mac users - they will switch in droves if iWork includes a decent spreadsheet app. I think it's virtually a lock.
But yes, the dam is starting to leak. Getting the majority of Mac users off Office and on to iWork is the next step in the process of removing MS from our lives completely. And not a moment too soon.

I'm just going to stay on the 4.3 firmware, because there's really nothing in 4.3.1 or 4.3.2 that I need. It would be more of a hassle to upgrade and then find out later that the Jailbreak was only for 4.3 which would require me to downgrade. I have the 4.3 SHSH blobs saved from a few weeks ago when Apple was still signing it, and I just saved the 4.3.1 blobs while I still can just in case the Jailbreak is only for 4.3.1 and I end up having to restore or something.
The Jailbreak is taking a lot longer than I thought it would take. Ah well, nothing I can do.

Sony needs to make use of the already established and once popular "Walkman" name and make a real iPod competitor.
They did bring back the Sony Walkman and it was DOA. Lots of models with no one wanting to buy them. It was a big strategy for them. Sony doesn't know how to market things anymore. Actually, Sony doesn't know how to design things anymore either.
