Sorry not to add trollbait here but here's my main issues:

    1) Though they are using current AMD/ATi 512MB is pretty weak... Though 2GB BTO is a good thing.

    2) Was hoping for more than 16GB support...

    3) <rant>The Aussie store is getting screwed again, we are 10% over parity and paying 20% more than the US store, even with import duty Aussies are paying too much IMHO </rant>

Oh well may wait till next year, for the next iMac bump and Lion...

First, the volume switch issue, then this. I feel sorry for case manufacturers. What a nightmare.

Uh no. This is a good thing for manufacturers. This means you have to buy another case. The last thing they want is for you to use the old one.

Also I think the new theme that will replace aqua in Lion will be based around fabric textures and this style goes with it.

Toolbars and drop down menus are the things Microsoft have DROPPED from Office 2007.

The pictures I've seen of Windows Office 2007 most certainly still has icon bars, it's just redesigned to be grouped more than a scatter approach.

And just because MSFT is changing it, doesn't mean that it will be more efficient. (It may be, but I haven't tried it yet.) I have heard a few pundits harp on the new setup saying in efforts to make things more simple they dumbed it down too much for a power user.

OMG... it's .2mm thicker. STOP THE PRESSES!

Apple shouldn't be aloud to state the thickness as being the same as the black iPhone. If they can't even fit into some cases then it's just yet another issue apple has to amend. Honestly, with all the QC issues and delays in the past do they just purposely not tackle issues that surely a competent R&D faculty would inevitably find?

It didn't take my 10 year old son long to figure out that he could continue to download apps after asking me to download one for him. Now, if he wants a free app, I wait for it to finish downloading and then i log out of my account before i hand his touch back to him!

    Wooooow, we're straying off topic.

    Back to the topic...

Don't you guys think that the iPod being overtaken is about as likely as Apple overtaking HP, Dell, and Gateway?

I just don't see it happening, Apple has a really high following when it comes to mp3 players and when people have had an iPod, they upgrade to a new iPod, not a Zune.

Can you name a few more? I have only seen Sony support AAC on their PMP devices.
    Zune HD for one.

The Sansa Fuze+ line too. Creative Zen, Archos, Sonos, Squeezbox.

I guess I have the opposite view of this since I will buy from iTunes as long as they continue to provide a lossless format--and Amazon provides only a lossy format. That is more important to me than a slight price difference. AAC plays on anything I need to play it on--and it could be converted to another lossless format such as FLAC if you really wanted to get out from under Apple's proprietary format. I am also a huge Amazon fan and a Prime member and buy a lot of stuff from them--but not MP3s.

I don't want to burst your bubble but Apple sell their tracks in a lossy format. Apple's format for iTunes purcases is a different beast to Flac.

This is pretty cool, since it means we can measure how thick color is.

As far as light goes, where black is the absence of all color, white is the presence of all colors.

Clearly, this means all those extra colors in white are making the phone thicker.

    Really? Wow, what's next?

    Cupertino:

Apple has announced a reduction in the number of restrooms available in their office buildings. This is seen as a media ploy to drive up demand.

Tin foil hats, necessity or fashion accessory? New at eleven.

But are they ready to make the move to Vegas? Would love to see WWDC move here. :)

I would love to see that but I doubt they will do it due to time lost of Steve's engineers making it to Vegas for a week. Most of Steve's boys talk one or two days and they are back to work. There are other venues larger than Moscone closer than Vegas but not as convenient. I am surprised they haven't split it into a two week event with one week Mac and the other iOS. Offer tickets for one of the weeks and a superpass for both.

I'm sorry if my comment came off as being snide.

But it really bothers me when people post how wonderful an app is and how useful it is and how it completely replaces a much more expensive app. When in reality it is only a simple consumer level product.

Others read this forum and buy Pages thinking that they can eliminate the use of Word. Then they find out that it really isn't that compatible with Word files. If you email a windows user a .doc file exported from pages, 7 times out of 10 they have problems with it.

Most pro printshops, publishers, law firms etc. only except word .doc files. Almost all law firms require a revision history. Collaboration tools are useally also required. Word handles this expertly. Plus it has table of contents tools, book publishing tools, bibliography tools, direct faxing, multitudes of custom templates, VB programing hooks, etc. etc. None of this has an equivalent in Pages.

I'm glad you found a solution to your problem and I am glad that Pages satisfies your needs for word processing. Maybe someday it will move out of the "consumer" ranks and into the "Pro" ranks when more functionality is added. Apple seems to know the niche that they are addressing very well.

I've been using Pages since it first came out, and I've exchanged documents that were exported from Pages into Word format with other users without any problems. In general, of all word processors that I've worked with (and I've tried out quite a few), Pages has some of the best Word compatibility that I've seen. (That's not to say that I haven't seen some things move - i.e. graphics - on export, but the errors, if any, are generally minor).

To go back to the CAD analogy, in years gone by AutoCAD was the only CAD program, for all intents and purposes. Any new CAD programs were frequently measured, first and foremost, by their ability to exchange documents with AutoCAD. Of course, there was never a perfect ability to make such exchanges, as AutoDesk (makers of AutoCAD) kept the definitions of the dwg file format secret, and usually changed it from one version to the next. So, it made import/export difficult for the competitors, much like what MS does with Office. Did the fact that the exchanges weren't perfect mean that companies who chose to use other CAD packages weren't really professionals? No.

    Again, these are just tools.

Will Pages fit the bill for everyone? Of course not. Does MS Word fit the bill for everyone? No. That's why there are different products out there. Certainly, Pages is not as feature rich (you named some specifics, though you missed some of Pages features in your citation ;) ) as MS Word. It's also a much younger program. Is it going to be a Word Killer? Probably not for the foreseeable future. But it's quite capable of doing what probably 90% of what the Word users out there use Word for. If the other 10% are stupid enough to buy it without checking to see whether or not it has the features that they need to do their jobs, then they deserve to have their money go to Apple.

Oh, and what's this about "pro print shops" only taking Word files? I've never been to a print shop that didn't like PDF.

4G data for tethering (probably unlimited when in 4g) as well as a better screen (Not more pixels, just sharper pixels with better color balance. Perhaps a bigger screen.)
Hmm...the display is already outstanding. I suppose it will probably have 4g, but what if it doesn't? Still upgrading sight unseen? No doubt there will be improvements, but exactly which parts they are nobody knows.

I prefer the clean look of the current versions as well. It would be nice if Apple would actually implement a system with unified look.

The iPad and iOS get away with it because you have one window at full screen to look at. With a computer, I want my components to look alike and behave alike as they sit side by side.

If you're going to add this crappy eye-candy, at the very least give us the ability to reskin all of it.

This is why Android phones are creeping up on iOS...they are offering more features and constant innovation in the hardware. iPhone users (and I used to be one) only enjoy hardware innovation once a year.

Maybe we will see an LTE iPhone in 2012, maybe not but I can say with all the certainty in the world that Android will have kick ass dual core LTE phones with large screens and probably something retina like in resolution by then. I wouldn't be surprised to see 12 MP cameras, 2-3 MP front cameras all running Android 2.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Where? Not is Oz. the HTC Desire is the last android that actually seemed to be worth buying. The desire HD is okay, but not that good. (plus it doesn't come on the Telstra's stupid NextG network.)

Most android phones seem to get the reviews: could do better. As far as I can tell, virtually all are regarded at best as just sub-par to the iPhone 4, except the Desire which is even older.

It pains me as I'd prefer a OSS base over proprietary, and both the HTC Desire & iphone4 seem to be reaching the end of their cycle. Then there is the reluctance of networks to upgrade the software, and the strange lack of syncing with anything other than official supported systems. Possible, but just too hard with plenty of caveats.

For Mac users, why would we want to install Vista-(via BootCamp) and then also use it under virtualization?

On my MacBook, the BootCamp install is for software that needs direct access to the hardware and where performance under virtualization would suck. ;) I run Windows XP/Vista under Parallels to check out how the web pages that I create on the Mac side using MAMP. Seriously, who in their right mind would install IE7 on their Windows system before the first service pack comes out?

My favorite iPhone design was the first one. Bring back the aluminum and rounded sides. It's not comfortable to hold this iPhone 4 brick!

It's just a matter of what you're used to. I love my IP4, and my wife's 3GS feels clunky to me. Cognitive dissonance says you'll end up defending whatever you have and resist changes. Just human nature, not good/bad design.

So I'll say that, if this is accurate, I stand corrected. After a few years of reading Microsoft (and other) EULAs, even I thought Microsoft wouldn't be that retarded. ;-)

Given the language, and given the additional-license situation with Business and Ultimate, I still have to say I'm surprised.
The more "interesting" restriction I saw (and mentioned in the other thread) was the "don't use DRM in a VM" restriction even with business or ultimate.
