I have seen posts in which people ask about gaming on the mac without windows, using multiple monitors, or thinking of upgrading to a mac pro. None of these accurately describe my problem. I know that mac os x does not support crossfire.
I have a 2009 mac pro. I use os X for everything except gaming. The 5770 does what I need it to do on the mac side. Gaming under bootcamp with windows 7 is not as good as I would like. I will only be using one ACD 27" and no other monitor. I do not wish to put a 2nd PSU in the 2nd optical bay slot.
So, should I order another 5770 and use it in crossfire or sell the 5770 that I have and upgrade to the 5870. As I recall, crossfire is not a mobo thing. If this has been answered before, I apologize in advance.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe the crossfired 5770s would be faster. and it will give you better anti-alasting. Why would you however even consider buying an 5870 it is outdated and expensive as hell compared to some of the newer cards out their. I use a 6870 and it as smooth as butter.

There is no way to change the graphics chip on ANY iMac. They are all soldered to the logic board.
More RAM + faster harddrive is about all you can do.

Premiere will use the other cores, but for me i'd rather 4/6 cores with a higher clock speed and the matrox compressHD card, than a more expensive 8/12 core machine, with lower clock speed and no budget left for the compress card.
I understand. I'm honestly thinking of purchasing an iMac (after the refresh). I'll add the maximum amount of Ram (or atleast 16GB) and get the best processor from the Apple Website. I need to buy a monitor for a powerbook and saw a few companies selling new, in the box 17" Apple Studio Displays online. The price is about $450. I have always loved the look of that monitor, but am wondering how well they stack up with today's monitors. In addition, I believe for the same price I could get 19" - so I am torn. Any advice? :confused:

i cant update my iMac for some reason my updater is not letting me do it. the version in trying to download is JAVA for MAC OS X 10.4, release7 and also the iDVD update not letting me do ether of them. can someone please help me. the latest software update on my system is version Mac OS X 10.4.11

Thanks for that. Yes it's going to be my first SLR. Parents are willing to stretch to whatever as I never ask for much usually anyways and I'm the kind of person who would prefer to save the money and buy things myself etc.
I know about Tamron and Sigma lens too, I've been looking at those as well. I wasn't sure if 18-55 would be enough and that I might need a new lens in the near future. When I first started out with my Sony, I used it to make smart albums based on a few focal lengths and decide what I wanted to have better, After my niece was born, it was clear that the lens I needed was a 50mm with a big aperture... It is also a lot more useful than those few things - along with Lightroom (just Lightroom is 3 or 4 times the price).
I really like using the far end of my 55-200 in street photography, something I'll be doing a lot more of when I move to NY, as it has a nice reach on it for getting fairly candid photos of people. My 50mm lens is great for getting portraits and is awesome in low light.
You sound like you have your head screwed on in terms of your parents, that's how I was. :)

For some reason, I can't get the "View in iTunes" link to work. I'm a paid iPhone developer, but it says "The Apple ID and password you entered does not provide access to ADC on iTunes."

I have my home computer set up as a mini-webserver, which I mostly use for sharing pictures and other files with people, however, recently, I have been unable to serve pictures over a certain size.
Pictures will load to a point, but then they will stop loading and I will get an error in Console.log and system.log:
/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari: Corrupt JPEG data: 2 extraneous bytes before marker 0xdb
/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari: Corrupt JPEG data: premature end of data segment
I know that the pictures are not corrupt because:
1. They worked fine a month ago
2. I can open them in any picture editor/viewer without problems
3. It happens to all my pictures above a certain (unknown) size

The Apple Learning Interchange was used for collaboration, not just publishing lesson plans. It had a members list and places for interaction so educators could connect with and work with each other. I don't see how the iTunes U can replace that. This seems like a step down.

WHen posting pics of your system online people need to start adding watermarks so idiots like these won't reuse them for posting Ads on CL or Ebay or where ever.
They post on CL here in Sacramento as well. Usually we use the Flagging system to get them deleted as quick as possible.. I just wish there was someway they could be filtered or refused from posting.

To whomever asked about the trackpad, no it seems fine to me. And i took it to class today, and it was jsut fine. Still haven't given it a full class workout yet, as I want to wait till i have a bag to carry it in.
Maybe I need to workout some more, but man, my campus is huge and I get sick of carrying around my 15", much less a 17". As much as I would love to...

Err sorry but um, what leads you to believe there is a problem with the thermal paste? Heat? Macs get pretty hot, download a fan controller.

it will sure fix it if the kernel panics were caused by overheating, which is likely, i would give it a shot, if that doesnt fix it then you know that the problem lies somewhere else!

A CDN isn't a web host or a cloud provider. It's a distributed network of computers that push-out content to the "edges" of the Internet, closer to users. It's appropriate for large web sites with large geographic appeal which also have a need for low-latency deliver of content to users.
Amazon does have a CDN product, but it's not included in the base S3 offering. S3 offers storage services in ONE of Amazon's data centers, but doesn't push-out content across their world-wide network.
To my knowledge, the other solutions offered aren't CDNs and don't offer a CDN product.
Let's see, VPS offers origin pull caching on a few dozen locations around the world, including over a dozen in the US.

I'm looking for a good earphone with mic for my iphone 4 and since I like the designs of the tangled-free flat cables, I've short listed these 3 earphones: Monster Beats Tour by Dr. Dre, A-jays Four, and Ultimate Ears 500vi/400vi.
Has anyone compared these 3 earphones before? I've seen one comparison between Tour vs. A-Jays Four but not convincing enough for me to decide between these two :/
I've only used the tours but the cord fell apart on me within weeks. It seems like a sturdier design than the Kilpsch S4i's I was looking at (which apparently had better sound quality than the dres according to reviews) but the cable looked so flimsy that I chose the dres instead. Bad choice though, as the cable was terrible. I'd stay away from them if I were you, not nearly worth what they cost
