just for the record, this link has been submitted around 10 times now, but I've been on the whole unimpressed by the desktops so far. Maybe by offering the link and getting some new blood in there, it will liven up.

    You missed the entire point.

If you are going to say that you know it is the phone over the carrier, you have to be able to have experienced other phones on that carrier to see if they have the same issues (Therefore it can't be the phone cause different phones still have the same issues) or you have to have used the same phone on Verizon and witnessed that the phone didn't have the same problems on Verizon.

Your experience had you using a different phone on Verizon than on AT&T and your only experience with AT&T being the iphone. Therefore the problem could be either the iphone or AT&T cause you have no basis of comparison to be able to pinpoint which is the problem!

And your experience with "other carriers" says nothing about AT&T (odd that you don't say they are experiences with AT&T... )

Didn't miss the point at all.

I've stood in several locations and observed Verizon phones make calls and non-verizon have no signal. Smart phone or not.

The carrier was the difference. Verizon is much better than other carriers in rural areas and low signal areas such as my basement office. Lots of people around this office with different model phones and carriers to observe.

Oh and I'm including ATT in "other carriers". So that is cleared up. ATT does not do as well as Verizon in rural areas and certain specific urban areas.

But if you live in an area with good ATT signal then no problem.

By the way I'm taking my free coupon into ATT this week to get the microcell. The reason being my home gets poor ATT signal. This wasn't the case with Verizon. More proof for you.

Overall my experience with ATT is good. I get by. I'm not bashing them. Just stating the facts. There are certain areas where I do miss having Verizon though.

What do you mean? Are you talking about Leopard? Leopard will work with Core 2 Duo, Core Duo, PPC, probably everything back to about a 1997 model imac.

However Leopard will only provide 64 bit support to 64 bit capable chips, that would be G5 PPC and Core 2 Duo only.

He's talking about the OpenGL update that allows one processor to deal with OpenGL instructions whilst the other does, um, other stuff. It supposedly gives OpenGL performance as much as a 2x boost in speed.

I'm guessing it only works with Mac with multiple processing cores.

Download the Linux drivers located On Samsung's Website (http://www.samsung.com/au/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP01&prd_ia_cd=&prd_mdl_cd=&prd_mdl_name=ML-1710)

Extract the file, you should have a folder called 'cdroot'
    Navigate to cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share
you should see a folder named 'ppd' - Get info and change it's permissions to read/write for yourself and read for everyone else, apply to all enclosed items.

Remove and start re-adding your printer in System Preferences.
You will see a list named 'Print Using' - it will likely be set to Auto, choose Other.

    Navigate back to cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share/ppd
    Choose 'ML-1710spl2.ppd'

    Done :D

OSX uses CUPS for printing like linux - printing support is provided in cups by a 'PostScript Printer Definition' file; These are interchangeable.

I bet sales of the whitebook have tanked since October. Only reason to buy a whitebook was because you could not afford a macbook pro. The air is even better than 13" MBP in everything but raw cpu power, and lack of some ports.

Just a few minutes ago on BreakfastTV - Toronto, they said there were rumours going around that iPhone Canada will be announced today in SJ's keynote.

Not heard of this rumour before but this morning.

    Thoughts?

Could make sense - and source of the rumour might have some credibility now that CityTV is owned by Rogers...

I'm still waiting for the CDMA version though!

Tell that to the Parallels people. Bootcamp isn't the same thing.

True to use Bootcamp you actually have to re-boot the computer. I see what you are saying.

Funny how the folks at EMC (VMWare) didn't seem to think so...

Well, I'd think there are a couple important distinctions. VMware's product will almost certainly be for Intel Macs only, so it's not going to be universal. Also, while MS has in-house expertise already on developing VPC on x86... those people aren't in the MacBU. Occasionally MS will "lend" people from one division to another, but it only seems to happen when the company as a whole sees the end result as being critical to MS's future (e.g. the XBox folks being shifted over to Zune).

I don't particularly like Microsoft, but I don't think they've been going out of their way to hurt Apple lately. Business is business. When there's a good business case for maintaining a product - such as Office - they continue to do so. If at some point the MacBU is not a moneymaker, it will go away.

Sounds plausible, except for the delay.

Guessing Apple will re announce the white iPhone 4 on WWDC and compensate the delay with adding the A5. And hey, the black one will get it too. Sounds cheap, but anything is better than my good ol' 3G right now.

I have a 3 part tent "1 Large Middle and 2 small separate tents linked by a tunnel for privacy" It can be used for up to 12 people "Mini Condo Type" i would be willing to bring that and even share with other folks waiting also.

Since it may rain your tent would be amazing. I have just a big umbrella.

    OP,

You have received quite a great amount of advice, since I posted earlier in the thread. As Firestarter, so eloquently pointed out, RAID is not Back-up per-say, rather it is a storage solution. I use various RAID configurations, because they work for me. I went with RAID 1 & RAID 1+0 (10) storage setups, because they are what works for me & my work-flow. I shoot way too much, to be using DVD's as a storage solution.

From my experience, I have yet to encounter someone, that has a had a CD/DVD last more than a Decade. IMO, that type of statement is not valid, till we've had DVD-R's for two decades or so, and can prove that they are still readable years later. Lab Testing, doesn't count for crap in real life.

I bought my Mac Pro on eBay, and have yet to encounter any issues with it. It is a 1st Gen (1,1), and has worked flawlessly. After I received it, I added 12GB of Ram, and re-configured the HDD Bays for my needs.
Bay 1: 250GB for OS, Documents, & Apps
Bay 2: 1TB 7200, for Scratch and only Scratch. I have it setup for both CS5 & Final Cut, but that's it. I do not use it for anything else.
    Bay 3: 1TB 7200. OSX RAID 1
    Bay 4: 1TB 7200. OSX RAID 1

Both 3 & 4, are linked together via OSX, in a RAID 1 Configuration. I use the RAID 1 primarily for active files that I am rendering/ working from (i.e. Images & Videos), however, I also make a clone of the 250GB HDD, that I regularly update, as files are created/ edited.

Though Designer Dale, pointed out that I am a Pro, I also started out learning the ropes through mostly trial & error, of what to buy & what not to buy. That is a rather expensive road however, and forums didn't exist back in the late 90's & early 00's, like they do today. Whether your a Pro, a Hobbyist, or a Beginner, it doesn't really matter when it comes to storage. Storing & backing up Images/ Videos/ Files, is just part of the modern digital age. When I am asked about cameras' to buy, I suggest to anyone, that is looking to invest into the newer DSLR's/ HDSLR's, to also invest in large HDD's to back up the rather large images, that are captured by the newer bodies.

Snberk103, has hit the nail on the head, regarding his most recent post. Mac Pro's are typically a longer term investment. Though I bought a 1st Gen, it is quite sufficient for running CS5 in 64 Bit, and Rendering video in Final Cut.

Here is an example of daily usage on my MP: I typically have 6-10 Apps running at any given time, and though I have PS CS5 maxed out, Ram allotment wise (80% of total Ram), I never max out all 12 gigs. Highest I have ever hit, with both CS5 & FC running @ 100% + FireFox & PhotoMechanic is 9 of 12GB. If I leave FF running for days on end, then it will consume 1-1.5GB of Ram on its own, and I will start getting paging issues on certain sites. Even though the MP is a 1,1, it is expandable to 32GB of Ram. :D

I also have a Spring 2008 24" iMac (2.4 C2D, 4GB Ram, 250GB HDD), and it does well running CS3, FF, & PhotoMechanic. But the iMac is nearly maxed out Ram wise, and doesn't offer the expandability of the Mac Pro. However, since I bought the Mac Pro, the iMac is resigned to light duty, as it just doesn't stack up to the Mac Pro, though the iMac is several years newer.

The suggestion for an LCD to compliment your Mac Pro investment, is quite an important area to look into. I currently use the last generation of the 23" ACD. Color Accuracy is dead on, however, when I start looking for a replacement, I will be looking towards both the NEC PA Series Line-up (http://necdisplay.com/category/desktop-monitors) & also the Dell UltraSharp line-up (http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic.aspx/global/products/landing/en/ultrasharpmonitor?c=us&l=en&cs=04).
