FYI as of 2:45, there are appx 326 people (if I count every head correctly here) in line for the gateway apple store.

Given how much a sham their extended warranties are (hardware-based, not brand- or OS-based; protect a $2200 MBP and they'll replace it with a $500 Windows-based thing with the same CPU inside.)

Realized yesterday that I took too long... lost 225 bucks CAN because of my stupidity..... I hate that system
Since you order online, they could have taken it off already instead of having to mess around with their UPC codes and forms... anyway, my fault
Did you call them? If not, you should just to see if there's any other recourse.
Obviously, there's no reason to just let the money go if you don't have to.

I would prefer not having to ship it, thusin the Montreal area but I'll see how it goes. I'll post more info on it shortly when I actually go back to the lab. I just want someone to get some use out of it, rather than have it in a landfill somewhere.

Haha lol @ Godzilla at Alcatraz!
Figured this thread would be a good idea since we have lots of arty people around here, figured it goes hand in hand with Mac users?

I just bought an iphone 4 on Saturday. My mute button was broken, I didn't feel like getting it fixed and didn't want to wait until September for 5. Not regretting it at all! I plan on selling the 4 in the future, but might just wait for Iphone 6 in 2012 now. That's what I would recommend anyone doing who has a 3GS dying
my 3G is dying too :) but I need iPad 2 first
i would rather go with dumb phone and iPad 2 for use in school etc

I've never understood the argument against the Air because of it's lack of DVD drive. I have no idea when the last time was I used mine, and it takes up a massive amount of space and weight on my MacBook.
I'm sure some people have uses of a DVD drive and for them its understandable, but I feel most people, myself included fall into the "I can't remember the last time I've used my CD/DVD drive ..." category. Which is why I replaced mine entirely with a SSD drive, which I boot from. I would recommend it to anybody with the available funds.

I don't think he is fake. He has a facebook page and twitter. He is saying he is releasing it tomorrow. Guess we will see tomorrow.
Yeah I agree his jailbreak is real. Possible stability issue though. I hope he releases it when it is really good so I don't have to listen to whiners...

thanks for the input guys!
i currently have the late-2009 unibody white macbook, would it be worth it to buy the new 2011 13" MBP? I'm just trying to see my options
Depends on what you do. Most likely not, to be honest.

We have to remember that Apple plays a large part within the music industry now. Of comparison look at MTV.

didn't apple officially say that intel processors would be out in the summer of 2005?
At the 2005 WWDC which took place in the Summer of 2005 Apple announced that they would be moving to Intel processors and that the transition would be complete in 2007. Obviously, they beat that time table by a wide margin.

1) The mini is 2x as expensive as iTV
2) The mini would cost even more with HDMI (at least right now)
3) A lot of consumers just want the simplicity of a set-top box.
4) Others don't want to waste the power of a full computer just as a media center.
Yeah, but if Apple want to compete in the media center market, they will have to produce a small box that will do all....ie put HDMI in Mac Mini (iTV could be a cut down version of this??)

We use Glyph drives at the (university) recording studio where I work, and they've been fantastic. They're the hot-swappable models (these drives (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GTKey500-8/)), but I've heard good things about all of their products. You'll find lots of specific models if you poke around Sweetwater's site.

Don't put Apple Lossless onto your iPod. You won't gain anything from it other than craptacular battery life. Your iPod moves 25MB of music from the hard drive (HD) into cache memory, and plays the music from cache memory. If it didn't work this way, your HD would be spinning for as long as you use it. The HD uses a lot of power, which is why the cache memory makes the battery life reasonable.
Anyway, if your iPod has 25MB of cache memory, and you have 3 mp3 songs, and each mp3 takes up exactly 8 MB of space, this means that your cache memory can store these 3 songs onto cache memory (24MB worth of songs), and your iPod will play all 3 songs before it has to reload more songs from the HD into the 25 MB cache memory.
HOWEVER, if you encode all your songs in Apple Lossless format, and each of the 3 songs is now 25MB in size (ie: much larger) instead of just 8MB per song, your iPod will only be able to store a single 25MB song in memory instead of 3 songs. So after each song is finished, it has to get another song from the HD and put it into memory, which uses up a lot of power. In the previous example, it could play 3 songs before having to fetch more songs.
Also, your anti-skip will barely work if your song files are enormous. ;)
When you Import songs, set the file format to AAC and either 128kbps, 160kbps, or 192 kbps. I say encode the songs at 160kbps to make sure the battery life is good. 192kbps means that each song takes up 50% more space than a song encoded at 128kbps. ;)

I'm sitting here in Starbucks watching my friend install Leopard on his MacBook Pro. I will be buying mine at my school for $69. Horray for being a student!
Do you attend UNT? The bookstore should have them in by monday- apparently Apple "overnighted" them this morning... I'm still crossing my fingers and hoping for Saturday.

No, you don't pay a monthly fee. You do pay for the game though, but it isn't expensive. I think the Battle Chest, which contains Diablo, Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (the expansion) is around 30$...might be lower, not sure. Also, there's still quite a lot of people playing the game.
I just hope I can run it somehow...

A. Which version of Xcode?
B. What kind of file are you pasting into? .cpp, .mm, something else?
C. If you disable syntax coloring, does the problem disappear?
A) 3.2 (or whatever the latest on 3 is)
B) it is a relatively lengthy .cpp file
c) I am not sure, I will check that
How much free space available on the boot drive, and what size drvie, before the paste operation?
Some 40GB worth of space (getting to the point I need a new drive!)
If this is an issue with the syntax highlighter, then it wouldn't be this code per se, but the context in which the code is being inserted. I notice that it's really deeply indented (or at least for my style it is).
Yeah it is fairly nested unfortunately as a result of a lot of logic :(
It is possible that the use of "i" as an iterator was causing problems as this was nested in another larger loop using the variable "i" in an alternate iterator.
Maybe xcode just goes insane trying to track the variables if you do this? STill seems weird to lag that badly.
