I don't think DVDs became the norm until Tiger.
Mine were in DVD form in OS X 10.3.
PM me, I have some 10.2.2 disks.

Sorry let me clarify, I'm @ BB in SLC. There is just me here, well my chair and me. At 4PM they give you a ticket so you don't have to wait in line for the last hour. So stupid.
Did they confirm to you that they will have all models for sure?

the zune is nice...when it works. that was the biggest problem with it. compatibility issues with it and windows. there was a period when the original one was incompatibe with vista. you would think that division of one company would talk to each other now and again.

Just an update......... it worked for me in my hotel room !
Unfortunately two issues
It takes anywhere from 1 to 10 tries to make it connect
And
My hotel wireless is too slow to keep a channel without skipping (but that is not the iPads fault)
So thanks for the help by the way !
If the hotel wifi is slow that's probably why it took a few trys to connect. I tried it at a Starbucks and McDonalds WiFi and it worked very well. The channels were clear and didn't skip/freeze.

I like 1Password (http://agilebits.com/products/1Password/Mac) for archiving my serial numbers and other passwords. You can even store the email in 1Password as reference.
How do you use 1Password to store email? I own 1Password. Never knew it did that.

It was brought up in another thread, but I didn't want to completely hijack it for this purpose.
I spent a little (very little) time adding some links and information to the Cocoa FAQ. I changed the link text from the forum head to "How do I get started programming on the Mac?" to hopefully guide people there more readily, as newcomers may not know what Cocoa means.
I'd encourage everyone to beef up the FAQ to include more iPhone specific examples, and links to any helpful tutorials, etc.
I think it would be good to have a "one-stop shop" for newcomers instead of us posting essentially the same answers to(snip)
yeah, that was likely the guides original intent. so, keep improving the "permanent" rumors FAQ/guide pages. When "someone" replies with extensive info, hopefully "someone" (someone else?) will review that from perspective of adding the reply as a writeup for the guides.
one labor-saving suggestion: link out to the "usual" references (wikipedia comes to mind).
preferably don't "repeat" info that's well-covered at wikipedia. instead contribute blobs of prose which are original, rather than "sourcable" info (that info should be in wikipedia, since "sourcability" is a wikipedia requirement, per encyclopedia tradition).
Of course, complete topics which wikipedia ignores have the same appropriateness for rumors guide.

I do I agree, I would love to see starcraft 1 touch on the ipad......but I'll play Red Dead Redemption or Dead space on my tv
Well, as I said before, this isn't iphone against consoles, this is iphone against other handhelds. We should be comparing games we'd expect to play on the handheld devices.
Of course console is going to be better. If we are talking about playing at home and not needing portability, of course the console is a better choice than any of the handhelds.
You're comparing apples to oranges here. You may not be interested in handheld gaming, but that is what is relevant to this discussion, not console gaming. The iphone and other hand helds really aren't competitors to consoles, they serve a different purpose really.

Just out of curiosity, what do you want a new Cinema Display for, exactly, that the current ones aren't doing?
i'd like thinner ones. and more connections.

I can only be too happy to see a system that limits my freedom to do what I want with the things that I buy falls by the wayside. I applaud those who contribute to my freedom!
Yes, I have heard that I can choose not to buy. And I have done exactly that for the reason above!
(Even though I have two apples and an ipod).
It's really not my problem if the iTune store suffers, it should!!!

am i the only one a little disappointed at the Apple announcements?
Here's why:
1- only 1 studio signed on for movies, they are purchases, not rentals also.
2- ipod changes are not dramatic, more like minor tweaks. Ipod nano even is using an older case design. video ipod is a serious letdown, looks like they can't get the 16:9 model working.
3- no ipod/smartphone/treo type device.
it is like apple knew they didnt have great announcements so they announced the Itv device.
Some positives though:
1- Updated Itunes 7 Looks alot nicer, runs better. Hell i even have the pics for all of my owned cd's i ripped now.
2- movies are starting, nice thing for apple. hope they get more studios under contract.
3- games on ipod. this seems nice, but these games are hardly killer app's. i imagine more games over time. like there will be movies
Apple, you really need to start

hows the quality compare to when you stream at home? Assuming vpn connection to the internet is slower
Over 3G the quality is less. Over wifi it's very clear.

Hi all,
Here's a little back story about my setup, you can probably skip if you don't want to read it:
-----
I recently bought my first macbook pro, 13" 2011 model. I'm a windows developer so I needed to run windows on it, so what I did was put an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD in the optibay and installed windows on it, and cloned my OSX from the 5400RPM drive that comes with the macbook onto a new 500gb 7200RPM drive. So I have two separate drives for the two separate operating systems.
I had all sorts of trouble setting this up, because the 2011 MBP's don't boot from USB, I had to take my SSD out of the optibay and replace the DVD Drive, put the SSD in the main bay, install windows then swap it back.
-----
It mostly worked though, I could swap between the OS's using bootcamp, or reefit - both worked. However last week all of a sudden I just couldn't boot into windows, I got a black screen with a blinking cursor. As this is my work PC, and my superdrive was at home, I couldn't boot from a windows disk to do a startup recovery. I wasted a day trying to workout how I could repair this from within OSX, mostly screwing around with vmware/parallels to try get it to run a repair from a windows disk to no avail. I went home, swapped the drives again, and ran the repair.
However now my boot camp won't work, I have to use reefit to open up windows when I want to boot. Occasionally it just won't boot from reefit at all either. I tried going into boot camp assistant but there is no way to repair the boot camp partition without wiping the drive, which is a pain.
On top of this, I've got a number of other problems:
- Windows on my SSD won't hibernate or sleep without crashing windows. Is this normal? is there a way to fix this?
- I now can't set it to boot into windows by default.
- On some networks (ie at uni) when I swap from mac to windows, it wont let me join the wifi network, I'm guessing this has to do with mac addresses and security? Has anyone else come across this issue?
- battery life is pretty average on both operating systems, more so on windows, is there any enhancements to windows other than what you would normally do on a laptop?
I really need to get a reliable system setup, I can't afford to go into work and have my laptop not boot into windows. Can anyone give me some advice? Should I try taking an image of windows and setting up the boot camp partitions again on the SSD? Or perhaps I need to just shell out for a 256gb SSD and put both windows and osx on that...

It's only a sign of Mac addiction when everytime your friends are visiting, you spend all your time opening and exposeing windows to show them how cool your new Mac is and otherwise ignore them. :p

Would also be nice if they had a $250 15" LCD and a $99 CRT monitor.
But Apple has always walked away from the low margin product -- though the $650-$699 eMacs for education are reaching down quite a bit.
Basically there isn't enough margin in the low end for Apple to sell there -- it's basically a loss-leader and/or break even (if they're lucky) product for the likes of a lot of other companies.

Looks like the NGP can be a game changer
And with Sony intentionally taking a hit on every sale it could easily be $250-$300

Also no. iBook HDDs are IDE, and MacBooks (back to 1,1) use SATA, unless there's room for an adaptor or something.

One of the things that irritates me about iTMS is the fact that I can't play my purchased tracks on anything other than an iPod.
This doesn't currently affect me as I own an iPod but I would like to be able to use them on other devices as well (such as AAC compatible phones etc.) . This restriction means that I do not purchase as much from iTMS as I might otherwise.
I am wondering how much extra money Apple gets from locking users of iTMS into the iPod system.
Would 'de-regulating' FairPlay in this way encourage owners of other players to buy from iTMS and would this extra revenue offset that losses from lower (potentially) from iPod sales?
