I came home from work, turned on the TV and sat there watching the events unfold in disbelief. I didn't know how to react but i do remember being extremely angry. It was just shocking.

We'd just been in New York two years prior to 9/11. I'd recored the whole trip with my video camera. A short bit of it included the Trade Centre ... standing right at the bottom looking straight up.

On September 14th I was at a Radiohead concert in Belfast. Thom Yorke dedicated Street Spirt "to all the Americans trying to get back home".

    Very moving.

Ok for those concerned about picking up such a device and pressing 18 buttons by accident DO NOT FEAR.

If you read closely in the appleinsider article it explains that the device can detect if it's being held or pressed as if it were being touched as a button by measuring the length of time of contact.

I like the idea of the air but I wouldn't touch one until they get a modern CPU in there. Core 2 Duo doesn't cut it in 2011.

I store an archive of my RAW files as DMG images of my memory cards on a large 1TB drive.

I keep a subset of those (keepers) as my working images in my Aperture Library on my system drive.

    For 2010...

My RAW file archives consumed about 300GB, which is shooting an average of 1000 pictures per month or so (25MB per RAW image).

My Aperture Library consumed 138GB, which as you can see, is a little less than half of the pictures I took.

If I was you, I would plan on using an External drive to archive your RAW images to, and selectively importing only the ones you feel are "keepers" into your desired photo management application on your system drive. Even if you import all the photos from a shoot to your management app on the system drive, you can later prune it down to keep the size of your working library reasonable.

Periodically, you can also archive your photo management library to an external drive and start a new one on your system drive when it starts to get full.

The bottom line is that with some proper image management, and a large external drive, you can essentially get by with nearly any size of drive on your laptop... it's size will merely dictate how often you need to archive things to your external, which of course, also depends on how much you shoot.

Thanks VirtualRain! That makes a lot of sense using an external drive. As of now, my photos are the same size, but I do not know the size, but I have to enlarge them in order to see detail etc... I will have to think about 'segregating' my photos, as I do not do that currently. However, there is nothing wrong with it, as you point out it is "photo management."

Also, I was wondering whether the size of the pix utilized more GB, thanks for clarifying this!

Anyone heard whether the jailbreak Comex was working on was patched by 4.3.1, or was that just speculation that it would patch the exploit?

1.) Is it possible to search Google from the address bar in Safari like how it is in Chrome? If so, how?

I don't think so. The google search is right next to the address bar. I personally like this better since it retains the last search entry even if you go to a different address.

2.) Is it possible to remove the Google search search bar on the top right of Safari? If so, how?

Yes, goto menu View -> Customize toolbar and make things the way you want.

    3.) What are Keychains?

Keychains are a Mac OS X native mechanism for storing passwords. Goto /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access to view and modify your stored passwords.

4.) Is it possible to make the tabs in safari have a bigger "x" so that they're easier to close? If so, how?

    Not that I know of.

5.) Is it possible to move the new tab button right next to the last currently open tab? If so, how?

You can click on a tab title and drag and move it anywhere in the tab bar. Is that what you are asking?

It's basic but very functional. Hell I've seen commercial games use free packages like SFXR and Modplug Tracker. I've used Garageband for my commercial projects too (all midi, no loops or anything) since I haven't learned how to use Logic yet.

Just don't use loops and try to customise the sound as much as you can.

Wonder how much they paid Connectix just to abandon it.

Next step: Microsoft announces they've acquired Parallels, Inc.

So the article mentions backing up your Library as a new feature included in iTunes 7. I don't really see it anywhere, anyone know what they're talking about?

Obviously I could just copy the library and folder myself (since I keep the library consolidated), but it would be nice to know how to do this directly from iTunes.

    See this (http://www.tuaw.com/2006/09/12/how-to-back-up-your-music-using-itunes-7/)

    There are still two problems:

    1) While Pages and Keynote may be exported to Word and Powerpoint, it is not flawless. When working with word documents and presentations small changes may not matter significantly, but when dealing with numbers, there is ZERO room for error.

    2) Pages and Keynote (and it seems the "Lasso") are all targeted at the non-experienced computer user. Unfortunately, for the most part, that is the exact opposite audience who use spreadsheets.

Oy veh. Do I ever dislike hearing remarks like this.

    1) As has been pointed out probably a hundred times before, document exchange even between different versions of Word is not "flawless."

    2) While you're at it, you might as well say that the Mac is "targeted at the non-experienced computer user." A lot of people do, you know. That's what you get for making it easier to use, right?

I don't remember the paper, but my friend gets it delivered in Draper.

It said you guys were up playing games on a projector and smoking meat or something. Sounded like a pretty good time lol.

I showed up at 4:15PM and was behind about 900+ people!

I'd like to read that if anyone can find it.

Ya some guys brought a big party tent and had two projectors in it. One had XBOX 360 and the other Sportscenter. They also brought a barbecue and made everyone pork and bacon and other stuff. They were awesome.

I'm guessing you didn't get an iPad that day, correct?

I'm down with the Analyst prefix, and we could have an Analyst directory page

EDIT: on second thought, the "Firstname Lastname (Analyst)" might work better for linking from the front page... flows better.

From the few benchmarks I've seen so far, the 2011 iMacs seem to be much more "even" in terms of raw CPU performance (which is what matters here) than the last generation. Not surprising, since last year we had dual-cores mixed up with quad-cores, and not only that -- i3's mixed up with i5's. This time, it's all i5 quads. From the bottom and up. :) (not counting the BTO options here)

I have a feeling that the less expensive iMacs have the most to gain on this move. It's quite a step up to go from dual i3 to quad i5 with the Sandy Bridge architecture, even if they keep a moderate clock speed.
