It amazes me that people who claim to be closely following Apple can come up with stuff like this. Have you ever looked at an apple product? A "gesture" home button? A profile that gets thicker towards the top? Are you KIDDING me? It's a real testament to how bad most people's design sense is: even when they're trying to invent plausible rumors about Apple, they come up with the worst freaking designs in the world.
This is like all the slide out keyboard rumors, etc., that always seem to come up--what company do you think you're talking about? Do you REALLY think Steve Jobs is going to get up on stage and unveil a sliding keyboard as the future of the iPhone? Or a "gesture home button"? Can you imagine how absurd that would sound coming out of his mouth?
Just because you have to keep the news flowing doesn't mean that you have to broadcast (and try to partially defend) any ludicrous product rumor that comes your way. I've got your next killer headline: "iPhone 5 to feature stylus, four capacitative buttons".

Ok a couple of things
Assume Apple and Amazon have the same deals with the record labels which is most likely the case.
Sure, they both have a deal that lets the labels set the prices. And the labels are underselling their digital copies on Amazon.
It is actually more likely they don't have the same deal. MP3 like Kindle files are loss leaders for Amazon. They are there and cheap to draw folks to the website where they will buy other more profitable things. That can only be done if Amazon has price control.
That they are being used that way has gotten the public ire of the publishers and soon the labels will probably start talking smack as well

It's rather cool to touch when it's not charging. Charging, then I'll probably burn my finger if I touch the "ESC/F1/F2" area.

yes i understand the point. but i don't find a reason.
and yes, i do have all the computers in my household contributing to my personal team.
i can't 'compete'. the whole thing is basically it's whoever has a very nice computer/folding rig, or whoever has a nice computer and doesn't use it, but leaves it on to fold. so technically it's not 'competing' because they are computers, you aren't actually doing any work besides for setting up the actual client, and having it run well on your machine.
well i never actually thought of having my own team. and i can see a little personal value there.
but really, it is fun to have team members to kinda compete with. i know we aren't doing work ourselves, but it's a good cause, and what gets people to fold besides the cause is to beat each other. without the points system, not many people would fold.

This is why Android phones are creeping up on iOS...they are offering more features and constant innovation in the hardware. iPhone users (and I used to be one) only enjoy hardware innovation once a year.
When does a single user actually get more than one new phone a year? You're creating a false scenario for a single user. As a community, android users have more choice, but a single user isn't negatively affected by the amount of innovation given that they can only buy once a year.
Maybe we will see an LTE iPhone in 2012, maybe not but I can say with all the certainty in the world that Android will have kick ass dual core LTE phones with large screens and probably something retina like in resolution by then. I wouldn't be surprised to see 12 MP cameras, 2-3 MP front cameras all running Android 2.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The forthcoming iPhone will likely be the dual core A5 processor. There is no faster SoC out there right now. 12 MP is irrelevant. It's all about the quality of the sensor, of which Apple is ranked one of the absolute highest. You're falling for the numbers game and assuming bigger means better.
For instance, only camera I've seen rated higher than the ip4's is a nokia's. Who's using nokia smartphones these days? The ip4's screen is considered among the best. The only one that will outright beat it is probably the upcoming SAMOLED + from Samsung. However, I bet the iPhone 6 or 7 will probably make the jump to AMOLED too. In terms of battery life, the droid x and atrix are pretty much on par. You have to get a blackberry to get better battery life.

I checked out Pages last year, but the lack of a thesaurus was a deal-breaker. The added wikipedia and google support is just a bonus for me - I'll be ordering this the day it's released.
bluebomberman - I'm working on a novel right now, and I've found that less is definitely more. All I need are a thesaurus, spellchecker, page numbering and find-and-replace. Anything else is just a distraction, but everyone has their own work style - that's just mine.

if MS makes it cheaper than an iPod then Apple might have some trouble. Parents/grandparents who are technologically ignorant will generally buy whatever Bestbuy salesman pimps to them for their kid. So if it is cheaper than an iPod with similar functions then a lot will be bought.
I think people are very wrong here.
iPod is the cool thing. It is the brand name. It is what everyone asks for, even if they're using a generic term.
If you have an identical iPod and identical Microsoft brand side by side, people will go for the iPod, because it is the standard they are comfortable with. Even my grandparents konw what an iPod is. It is the Windows / MS Office of the music player world.
I know its a hard thing to wrap our minds around, but in this particular space, Apple is the established gorilla and everyone has to fight for the extra mindshare. My MBP has been having some strange issues lately, so I've pulled the plug on Folding to see if that helps stabilize the system. That'll drop me out of the top 10 pretty quickly, what with all there crazy numbers some of you guys are posting. Ought to drop my PPD to about 1,400 or so.

For me, the biggest news is the 3GB of RAM and 200GB of disk that's available now--frankly the 2GB in my MBP-CD (Core Duo--how are we going to distinguish them now?) is a bit anemic, especially for running Parallels and PowerPC apps simultaneously.
(At least I'll finally get my boss to order one, so I can play with one of the new ones....)
Edit: Can't seem to add the new 15 to my shopping cart from the edu (College/University Proposal) store--just get:
"Your session has timed out after a period of inactivity. Please return to the Store Menu to continue shopping." I can add other items to the cart from that store, so it's just something that's screwed up. Sigh. Guess I should just go back to bed and wait awhile!

I still don't get the value of wireless in a music player--not in actual practice (battery life and added bulk, vs. the need to plug in to charge, which naturally takes longer than synching anyway).

If Apple dumped FireWire IEEE1394 for the sake of slimness, it is highly doubtful that they'd re-clutter and fatten it up with Bluetooth (which, after trying for many years (with other devices) I have now considered to be worthless crap). Really - unless one can charge with built-in solar panels (as Citizen (http://www.citizenwatch.com/COA/English/intro1.asp)does with their watches), wireless is a non-issue.
